Stay PAYE / sole trader if
Most of the income is one NHS job, locum work is occasional, and you want a Self Assessment or an MTD package without a company. We still claim what is allowed and file a Type 2 form if the pension rules require it.
Solaratax Limited · Specialist sector · Doctors and locums
Shifts, clinics and rotas leave little time for HMRC. A named Solaratax accountant looks after Self Assessment, limited-company accounts, allowable expenses and the NHS pension forms that sit beside the tax return. The office is in London. We work with doctors across Manchester and the UK by video.
Who we work with
Pick the page that matches how you work. Every file still has a named accountant at Solaratax.
Medicine is not a single income stream. A week can mix NHS PAYE, locum bank, an agency that wants a limited company, private patients and a pension contribution that changes the tax bill. A generalist return often misses the expenses that are allowed and the pension form that is due in February. We file the tax and the medical pension paperwork as one file, with one named accountant.
You treat patients. We keep the compliance calendar. The work is the same whether you are a locum, a salaried GP, a partner or a consultant with private practice — the mix of documents changes, the named accountant does not.
The Locum & Medical package is built for healthcare professionals who invoice through a company — locum doctors first, and also pharmacists, opticians and similar roles who need payroll, status references and a named accountant. Sole-trader locums who need quarterly MTD use an MTD package. Clinical work stays on the right side of HMRC; we do not invent a deduction to shrink the bill.
Step 1
PAYE, locum, partner, private practice or a company. Send last year’s return if you have one. We say which package fits before you pay.
Step 2
P60s, locum invoices, pension statements and receipts go in the portal. We write for professional clearance if you are leaving another accountant.
Step 3
You see the computation before it goes to HMRC. Type 2 forms and company accounts follow the same named accountant.
Most of the income is one NHS job, locum work is occasional, and you want a Self Assessment or an MTD package without a company. We still claim what is allowed and file a Type 2 form if the pension rules require it.
Agencies or clinics will only pay a company, you want limited liability, or a salary-and-dividend mix is better once corporation tax is in. Formation is £150. Ongoing accounts sit on the Locum & Medical package.
Limited-company locums and similar healthcare professionals use Locum & Medical. Sole traders use Self Assessment or an MTD package. Company formation is £150.
The full company package, tuned for locum doctors, pharmacists, opticians and similar professionals who invoice through a company.
£119per month
Or £1285 if you pay 12 months at once
Ideal for: Medical locums and allied professionals who need status references, payroll and a named accountant who has seen this work before.
